The fantasy adventure Eragon, based on book one of Christopher Paolinis trilogy about a young Dragon Rider, has been drawing criticism for borrowing ideas from the Harry Potter series (Hagrids dragon eggs and baby dragons), Star Wars series (Lukes uncle killed by evil empire), and most notably The Lord of the Rings trilogy (darkly magical advisor, one young man must make a journey, etc). Another element that Eragon has in common with these other films is its use of dream sequences in this case false dreams sent by an evil sorcerer working for a corrupt king.

In the movie, a teenaged farm boy named eragon (Edward Speleers) finds what appears to be the last dragon egg. After secretly raising the animal, eragon reluctantly becomes a Dragon Rider in order to right some of the wrongs taking place in the kingdom of Alagaesia. In an earlier era, dragons and their riders soared through the skies keeping peace across the land until tragedy brought about the apparent extinction of the fire-breathing beasts.

In addition to keeping a low profile for his own protection and that of Saphira (his dragon), eragon struggles with other problems: when he was young his mother fled with no explanation; the uncle who raised him was murdered, despite his status as a Dragon Rider he receives little or no respect because of his young age; and he has disturbing dreams about a beautiful elf woman (Sienna Guillory as Arya) who is suffering in a prison and needs his help.

Each dream provides more information about her identity, situation, and location. eragon has no way of knowing that the dreams are not authentic, but are being sent to him telepathically by the darkly magical Durza the Shade (Robert Carlyle) who imprisoned Arya and hopes to set a trap for the young Dragon Rider.

In accordance to scientific thought, most comedies and dramas attribute the source of dreams to the unconscious mind of the dreamer, but the fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres rely almost exclusively on the supernatural, pre-scientific conception of dreams originating from an outside evil source. Take Harry Potters recurring dreams of Lord Valdemort and Anakin Skywalkers recurring dreams of his mothers death all provided supernaturally from sources outside themselves.

As with Harry and Anakin, Eragons dreams propel him towards his destiny. This destiny is unknown to the dreamers, but is understood by older, wiser, more magical beings. Youve probably heard me say over and over that 80% of your return on your portfolio comes from the market and the sector. But what the heck does that really mean?

In June 1998, Investors Business Daily summarized two studies on the causes of stock- price movement in two books: The New Science of Investing, by Dr. Robert Hagen and The Latent Statistical Structure of Securities price Changes, by Benjamin King.

Those studies found that 31% of a company's stock-price action was tied to the market as a whole. Industry group action explained 37%, while broad sector action accounted for 12% of the price movement.

Both studies concluded that only 20% of the price action in a stock was determined by company fundamentals!

Unfortunately, most people were taught backwards. most think gains and losses are only determined by picking the stock with the right fundamentals! Fundamentals are things like P/E ratio, good management, growth rates, new products, market share, etc. I'd venture a guess and say that most people spend 80% of their time (and sometimes 100% of their time!) trying to find the stock with the best set of fundamentals.

Yikes!

So what happens when a company "with great fundamentals" happens to be in a sector thats on defense? Or what if the whole market is on defense? The company could see their stock price get slammed (yes, even with great fundamentals!).

Say you bought at a stock a few months ago at $40. Today it is $20. The company may still be growing like crazy, but the market or the sector dragged it down. If the story didnt change, then didn't the fundamentals just get even better? It has to be a better value at this price, right? If you invest by using only the fundamentals, you lose.

Again, most of the returns you're going to get will depend on whether the market (and the sector the stock belongs to) is on offense or defense.

look, everyone knows that if you're swimming with the current, it's an easier ride. There are times when the market is on offense (and you're moving with the current). Hey, it IS possible to make money when the current is against you. But the odds are stacked against you! So, try to swim with the current...swimming against the current is not recommended!

Offense? Defense? Huh?
When were on offense, we run offensive plays from our playbook. Meaning, well look to put money into the market to build our wealth. Were not going to buy everything in sight; we want to focus ONLY on the sectors that are also on offense.

When were on defense, well run plays designed to protect our assets. Defense doesnt mean run out and sell everything! Whats the goal when the defense comes on the field in a football game?

To prevent the other team (the market) from scoring against you!

When the market is on defense, well only call plays from our defensive playbook. Running a defensive strategy helps prevent us from making really stupid mistakes in our account and taking big losses. Defense can mean taking steps like buying protective puts against your holdings. Or possibly shave back a large investment in a stock or mutual fund.

Avoiding big losses alone will improve the performance for most people in the market.

How do we know whether to be on offense or defense? We use a tool that is an excellent indicator of the level of risk in the market. Fifty years ago, a technical analyst named A.W. Cohen came up with this tool he dubbed the bullish percent index. Cohen was looking for a way to tell when to be cautious near market tops and also aggressively optimistic near market bottoms.

If you think about it, isnt that what we all want? Something thatll tell us when the risk in the market is high...and when the risk in the market (or a sector) is low! And its been around for fifty years, ignored by many in the market!

The bullish percent index is the percentage of all the stocks in a universe that are currently on buy signals. Now, that universe may be all the stocks in the semiconductor or the financial sector. Or even all the stocks listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Knowing when the risk is high in a particular area will go a long way toward improving your investment results!

When to take action
Weve discussed the bullish percent is all the stocks in your group that are currently on buy signals. We feel its the single best risk level indicator we have found. But how do you know when to take action?

If 90 out of 100 stocks in a given sector are currently on buy signals, the bullish percent index is said to be at 90% for that group. If only 30 of 100 are on buy signals, the bullish percent is 30%.

Now, if 90% of all stocks in a sector are already on buy signals, that means only 10% of the names in that group are not on buy signals.

Wed want to be cautious with that kind of high reading!

Hey, no one likes being the last guy to show up at a party, but thats what happens to a lot of individual investors. They get in near the top and get creamed when the sector or market takes a dive.

Now, what were measuring here is supply and demand. When there is demand, prices rise. When a sector reaches 90%, theres not much more that can move a group higher.

But thats not the time to sell.

See, stocks can hang around lofty levels for a LONG time. Its only when we see more and more companies in a sector (or market) start to give sell signals, we know that supply is overtaking demand. When that happens, lower prices are on the way.

Now, say last week we noticed that a sector had a bullish percent reading of 30% and this week its now at 38%. This is a group wed want to pay attention to! not only are the readings going up, they are going up from low levels!

This is precisely the stuff we zoom in on when telling you where to put money to work!

Predictions

If we need to get out of something, wed sure like to know it NOW, not later!

Hindsight IS 20/20. But it wont help you avoid losses in your account. Weve given up predicting what the market will do because we use tools that tell us accurately what IS happening right now in the marketplace. The point and figure charts we use and the bullish percent index are tools that tell us whats happening today. These charts tell us what is in demand and what is in supply.

There are too many folks trying to complicate the investing process. Keep it simple. Just remember that anything with too much supply will see their prices fall. Anything in demand will see their prices rise. And we have a method of measuring exactly which stocks and mutual funds are in demand and which are in supply.

5 Keys To Good Colon Health

There is a great deal of evidence that shows that we really ARE what we think, in a genuine physiological fashion. The medical field of research is called Psychoneuroimmunology or PNI. It is the study of interactions between a persons perception of the world around them, their behavior, the way their brain functions, and their immune system. The field of PNI studies the measurable interaction between psychological and physiological processes. The psychological portion is the Psycho aspect, the central nervous system aspect is the Neuro aspect, and the body's defense against external infection and mutant cell division is the Immunology aspect. There is also an endocrine system portion of PNI involving the release of various hormones in coordination with the other three aspects.

Pregnancy can be a challenging phase for your spouse. Maintaining a healthy posture will help her keep back problems away. An exercise routine will especially help her to keep fit. Your spouse can begin an exercise routine even if she has never really exercised before. Walking, swimming, pre-natal yoga, and simple aerobics are ideal forms of exercise during pregnancy.

These are some of the things your spouse may need to remember if she is starting an exercise routine:

All exercise programs should be begun gradually. Starting with about 15 minutes, three to four days a week is sufficient.

She should resist the temptation to overdo it.

Since the xbox 360 was released in 2005 the video game console has been plagued with general hardware failure issues indicated by the three red lights flashing on the console.

You may have heard of or experienced this problem yourself. I am going to tell you about the main xbox 360 problems people have been experiencing and how you can solve them.

The most common problem is overheating. The console is designed to utilize heat sinks, vented openings, and fans to aid in dissipation of this heat. If the airflow to the vents become obstructed then this causes reduced system performance and hardware failure indicated by the three red lights . try placing the xbox 360 console in the open and free any debris that might be blocking the vents.

The nyko intercooler has also been reported to have caused a general hardware failure in a number of consoles, as well as scorching of the power AC input. microsoft stated that intercooler drains too much power from the console and can cause the faults to occur.

Natural Health Therapies and Cancer - Part Four

This article is the fourth installment of a series on Natural health Therapies and Cancer. The material presented is meant to inform you of complementary cancer therapies that are available in the medical community. These therapies are to be used in cooperation with other cancer treatment methods. They are not meant to be done in place of your physicians care. In the previous articles, we have discussed the fundamentals of cancer, reviewed a list of causes, explored the various types and stages of cancer, examined the role that nutrition can play in cancer growth, and looked at the use of herbal supplements as a form of cancer therapy. This segment will discuss various Physical Support Therapies and their benefits for individuals with cancer. The specific physical therapies will include Detoxification, Biological Dentistry, Water Therapy, Heat Therapy, Bodywork (which covers such areas as Therapeutic Massage and Exercise) and the ancient Chinese practice of Qi Gong.

Detoxification

I know that I have talked about the practice of detoxification in articles on diet, fasting, and cleansing your digestive system. In the society we live in, we are constantly bombarded by pollutants that directly affect our body. Right now, most drinking water contains over 700 chemicals; over 10,000 chemicals are used in food processing and storage; and over 3000 chemicals are added to the food supply. We directly ingest all of these toxins and they can remain in our body for years. The only way to cleanse the system is through a detoxification process.

There are several different systems to detoxify the body; the length of time for the various systems lasts from one week to several months. A thorough detoxification will address clearing all areas through which the body releases toxins -- the intestines, the bladder, the lungs, and the skin. In addition, each system will have a special program of nutrition to help rebuild the body's healing system.

In order to do a proper detoxification, you should consult with your physician regarding dietary changes, reduction of stress load, massage and skin brushing (stimulates nervous system and lymphatic system), herbal supplements, and nutrients such as antioxidants and probiotics to boost your immune system function.

Biological Dentistry

The practice of Biological Dentistry involves removing dental toxins such as mercury-based dental fillings and root canals that can harbor unidentified infections. This practice has been developing since the 1940s, and focuses on using nontoxic dental restoration material instead of mercury dental amalgams.

Practitioners believe that the mercury leeches out from dental fillings and travels into the body tissues. This process weakens the immune system, providing an opportunity for cancer growth. They also believe that root canals can contain hidden infections, which can directly contribute to the development of cancer.

The removal of amalgam fillings must be followed by any detoxification of the body in order to eliminate any residual mercury that may still be in the body tissues. This is a dietary process similar to the one described above and lasts roughly three months.

Water Therapy

The technique of Water Therapy or Hydrotherapy uses water, ice, steam, as well as water at hot and cold temperatures to assist the body in removing toxins. Techniques included steam baths, hot and cold compresses, sitz baths, colonic irrigations, and full-body immersions.

Water Therapy is used for detoxification as well as for the relief of stress and pain. This is achieved by increasing the blood circulation and heightening the immune response to the application of water techniques at various temperatures.

Heat Therapy

Hyperthermia or Heat Therapy is beneficial to individuals battling cancer because cancer cells are vulnerable to high temperatures. Methods of raising the temperatures include saunas, hot packs, steam baths, or wrapping oneself in hot blankets. Common medical approaches include ultrasound, shortwave or microwave diathermy, radiant heating, and extracorporeal heating.

Ultrasound increases the body temperature by the frictions of the sound waves as they pass through the various body tissues. Diathermy causes the body temperature to rise by electromagnetic energy delivered at certain radio frequencies. Radiant heat is the application of infrared heat to areas of the body. Extracorporeal heating is the practice of removing the blood, heating it outside of the body, and returning it to the body at a higher temperature.

Hyperthermia has been shown in studies to change the structure of cell membranes. It makes tumor cells, easier to attack with radiation or chemotherapy, while protecting the normal cells.

Bodywork

The term Bodywork refers to a wide range of practices such as Therapeutic Massage and Exercise. These techniques provide physical relaxation, stimulation of the circulatory system, reduction of pain, stimulation of the lymph system, and enhancement of the body's immune system.

Massage helps to relax muscle tension as well as speeding the removal of toxins from the system. Prolonged muscle contractions contribute to pain and interfere with the elimination of chemical wastes in the muscles.

Exercise helps with digestion, weight control, detoxification, and immune system function. Yoga, low-impact aerobics, calisthenics, stretching and flexing exercises are all good ways to strengthen the body's healing system. The benefits of exercise for people with cancer are as follows:

Increased blood supply to cells -- cancer cells cannot survive in an oxygen rich environment.

Lymph system stimulation -- muscular contractions help the lymph system remove toxins more rapidly.

Increased immune system function -- exercise increases the activity of the body's Natural Killer cells.

Increased body temperature -- exercise elevates the body temperature to a level that is destructive to cancer cells.

Qi Gong

Qi Gong (pronounce chee-GUNG) is a therapy of slow movements used to develop deep relaxation, enhanced oxygen supply, increased lymph circulation, and to reduce symptoms associated with cancer. This system has been used in China for centuries as a preventive measure. Qi Gong directs the production and flow of qi or vital life force throughout the body. This life force is considered an essential component of Traditional Chinese Medicine and determining the flow of qi is an important part of the analysis of any disease.

The main ways that Qi Gong aids in resisting cancer are by:

Supplying additional oxygen to the body cells this is helpful because cancer cells cannot survive in an oxygen-rich environment and unlike vigorous exercise the oxygen is distributed throughout the body instead of being concentrated in the muscles.

Improving the balance in the autonomic nervous system this is beneficial because the autonomic nervous system controls our fight-or-flight response and dumps stress-related hormones into our system that suppress our immune system. Balancing this system decreases blood pressure by dilating the blood vessels, which helps the oxygen supply and boosts the immune function.

Increasing the function of the lymph system - this is advantageous because the lymph system acts as the bodys sewage system, taking toxins from all the bodys cells. Improving the circulation of the lymph system rids the body of toxins more rapidly and transporting immune system cells to areas of need.

Brands evoke responses. Talk to anyone who loves their Starbucks coffee, or hates their car; loves their Apple iPod, or hates their internet provider. When you think of your favorite or least favorite brands, certain feelings and attributes come to mind. These represent the brand. The same is true for people.

When you hear the name Joe, you have an impression of the Joe-brand, good or not so good. When Erin is assigned to your team, you may figuratively breathe a sigh of relief or roll your eyes. It's the Erin-brand that evokes your response. What about your name? What reaction does it elicit from your boss, coworkers or clients?

We expect brands to demonstrate their attributes, or brand promise, not once or twice, but every time we encounter them. Inconsistencies in performance can damage our brand relationships and cause us to select other brands. With people-brands, it means we promote, fire, assign projects and compensate based on that brand performance.

Of course, we may forgive an occasional slip, seeing it as an atypical hiccup from a brand we otherwise love. For me that happened with disney. I'm a disney fan, traveling to walt Disney world once or twice a year. But a few years back, the magic was tarnishing. The parks weren't quite as clean, the staff not quite as friendly, the experience not quite as promised, or what I had grown to expect.

Since disney had the equivalent of banked good-will in their brand relationship account with me, from years delivering on their brand promise, I tried a few more trips. Happily it turned around. But brand relationships we once loved can be diminished and good-will accounts can be overdrawn. It happens at work, too. Previously strong relationships can become bankrupt with inconsistent or poor performance.

Whether emails or hallway hellos, meetings or project plans, ideas or feedback, you imprint your signature with each action. Every encounter informs people what to expect from you. And these impressions, good or not so good, create brand "you" at work.

Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) can extend a local area network (LAN) over the Internet to remote networks and remote client machines. A VPN uses the Internet to route LAN traffic from one location to another by encapsulating the data inside encrypted IP packets. The encrypted packets are unreadable by intermediary Internet devices and can contain any kind of network communications - such as file and printer sharing, e-mail, remote procedure calls, and database access.

VPNs can be setup using server computers, firewalls or routers. Client access to the VPN can be made using client-side VPN software or by connecting to an ISP that supports the VPN protocol.

VPNs solve the problem of accessing private servers over the Internet through a combination of IP encapsulation, cryptographic authentication and data payload encryption.

IP Encapsulation
IP encapsulation provides a way to protect the data while in transit between the remote client and the private LAN. Computers outside the VPN should not be able to snoop on the traffic exchanged between the remote client and private server or be able to insert their own data into the communication stream. This is accomplished by creating what people refer to as a private and protected "tunnel" through the public Internet. When an IP packet contains another IP packet this is called IP encapsulation, and it provides a mechanism to refer to a host within a private network when a direct network connection may not exist. When this is combined with data encryption then we've effectively created our virtual tunnel.

Cryptographic Authentication
Cryptographic Authentication is used to securely validate the identity of the remote client so that the private LAN can determine what level of security should be applied to that user. VPNs use the authentication process to determine whether or not a remote user can participate in the encrypted tunnel, and for exchanging the public key that will subsequently be used for data encryption.

Suppose we have the following:
(a) a VPN client with a public IP address of 66.123.77.196 and a private IP address of 192.168.0.202 (provided by the corporation's dhcp server).
(b) a VPN server on the corporate network with two interfaces -- a public interface to the Internet that uses 168.156.192.75 and an interface to the private network with an IP of 192.168.0.101
(c) a web server on the corporate network with an IP address of 192.168.0.102

Prior to creating a VPN session the client host has one interface and a connection to the Internet through an ISP. The client machine can communicate with any host on the Internet but can not access the web server on the private network 192.168.0.X. After the VPN session has been created then the client host has 2 interfaces -- the original interface to the Internet and a new VPN interface. The new VPN interface becomes the default gateway -- that is, all packets will initially travel through the new interface. However, the VPN interface is not a physical network card -- it doesn't physically connect to anything. The VPN interface is used to encrypt and encapsulate packets that are subsequently sent as the payload of a new, outer packet. It is the outer packet that is sent out over the Internet (using the original interface) to the corporate VPN server.

The inner packet will use the client's private IP of 192.168.0.202 as the source IP address and the web server's private IP of 192.168.0.102 as the destination address. The VPN client encrypts the data field of the inner packet and this inner packet then becomes the payload of an outer packet. The outer packet uses the client's public IP of 66.123.77.196 as the source IP address and the public interface of the VPN server (168.156.192.75) as the destination IP. The IP encapsulated packet is then sent to the ISP and out over the Internet.

When the IP encapsulated packet reaches the VPN server at the edge of the private network it will unwrap the inner packet and decrypt its data field. Since the VPN server also has an interface to the private network it will then be able to forward the inner packet to the destination web server. When data is sent from the web server back to the client then the process is reversed -- that is, the VPN server handles the encryption/encapsulation and the VPN client is responsible for unwrapping/decoding.

"association Football", "football" or, in this age, "soccer" is considered an international pastime. It is played in more towns, cities, and countries than any other sport in the world. Millions share the love for this sport. Comparable to baseball in the US, or hockey in Canada, soccer enjoys the same reputation in the countries of Europe and South America. The sports popularity is swiftly growing in America. So what is it about this sport that attracts more and more participants every year? What is it that invites crowds of a hundred thousand fans and sparks these crazed fans into an uncontrollable rage and a sudden state of chaos? Something that has captivated the rest of the world is beginning to gain a foothold in the US. However, soccer did not enjoy a successful beginning.

It wasnt until the late 1800s that a man by the name of William McGregor introduced the FA Cup and international matches, which saved the game from obscurity. The earliest forms of soccer were played three centuries ago and quite rapidly evolved into a game radically different from its origins and thus flowered the irresistible spectacle still recognizable so many years later.

Soccer is the name commonly given in North America to a form of football played with a spherical ball. It is the most widely played team game in the world and the most popular spectator sport, followed avidly by hundreds of millions of fans. Soccer has been a part of my life since I was five years old. I have been playing now for twelve years. My experiences in soccer have changed from the first games where 11 players ran in a bunch following the ball, to where now we use a complex system of passing using triangles. Some fans have told me that our system seems difficult to learn and play but when broken down, it is very simple. I have learned a lot about the sport. When I started to play higher levels of soccer I had to make a commitment. As a member of this year's varsity soccer team I spend close to 24 hours a week on the soccer field. My coach played semi-pro soccer in Scotland. Nearly every coach in Utah knows him. He trains us harder than any other coach I have ever had. When I played with him several years ago our team went 16-0-1. We were ranked #1 in the state. With commitment and hard work our team hopes to continue our coach's winning tradition.

In 12th century England the most primitive forms of soccer were played on the battlefield. Stories tell of using the enemy's skull as a ball. Another tells of a brave village defeating a Roman team and running them out of town in 217 AD. Edson Arantes do Nascimento, or better known as Pel, is considered the greatest soccer player of his time. He was born in Trs Coraes, Brazil on October 23, 1940. Pel was famed for his powerful kicking and brilliant field strategy. He was an amazing soccer player to watch. Anyone who has ever played the game can't help but hold a tremendous amount of respect for his abilities. He scored 1200 goals in 1253 games making him the only player to score 1000 goals during a career. He began playing as an inside left forward for the Santos Football Club in 1956 and six years later the team won it's first world club championship. He also led Brazil to three World Cup championships in 1958, 1962, and 1970. In 1975 the New York Cosmos signed Pel for 2.8 million dollars, thus making him the highest paid soccer player ever. He retired after leading the Cosmos to the NASL Championship. Pel was inducted into the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 1993.

America's role in the development of soccer was minute until the middle part of the 20th century. Our nation was one that long resisted soccer's spread. By 1820, many American colleges played soccer, but there was no intercollegiate competition. The rules were casual and often changed. On November 6, 1869 Princeton University and Rutgers University engaged in the first intercollegiate soccer match in New Brunswick, NJ. The Rutgers team won the match 6-4. Soon immigrants from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales arrived in the US in the metropolitan areas of the East, Midwest and Pacific Coast. Before long, communities with textile mills, shipyards, quarries or mines had a soccer team among its immigrant population. The US Football association (USFA), now US Soccer Federation, was granted full membership in FIFA in 1914, and in the USA's first international match on August 20 they defeated Sweden 3-0. Despite this first victory the US usually lost to foreign teams. However, on June 29 during the 1950 World Cup in Brazil, a star player named Gaetjen scored the winning goal and the US defeated England 1-0. It was perhaps, the biggest upset ever in international soccer. In 1989 Paul Caligiuri scored the biggest goal in US soccer history since Gaetjens goal against England. On November 19 Caligiuri's 35-yard dipping shot found the net in a 1-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago, in front of 35,000 red-clad Trinidadians, clinching the USA's first appearance in the World Cup in almost 40 years. The US team qualified for the World Cup for the fourth time this year. Their road to the World Cup was not an easy one. They tied a very good mexico team 1-1. Soccer has entrenched itself well in America, not only among men but among women also. The first women's teams were formed in England in the 1880's and participation has expanded dramatically. Now more programs are being started for young girls to have their own soccer team to play on. These "feeder" programs help increase the level of play in high school and college. We have all seen it, heard it, and read it. Soccer isn't a "real" sport. Soccer is boring. Soccer is only for geeky, gym-class kids with pocket-protectors and thick glasses. Soccer is a foreign game for hooligan, drunken psycho-fans. Soccer is just plain un-American. Just before the 1994 World Cup, Mike Barnacle of the Boston Globe described soccer as "a mindless sport where hordes of incomprehensible athletes run aimlessly in a circle until everyone is dehydrated and, finally, some guy uses his skull to score a touchdown." (American Attitudes Toward Soccer) No other sport is treated to such consistent degradation in the press. Tom Weir wrote in USA Today in December 1993, that "hating soccer is more American than apple pie, driving a pickup, or spending Saturday afternoons channel surfing with the remote control." What is often called "soccer bashing" is really based on century-old notions that branded football as the manly, American games, while soccer was either a sport for immigrants or a sport for fitness.

Soccer has survived rule changes and alterations. This sport must have something that no other sport has. What is it? Is it the constant action and fast paced play? Is it the simplicity in getting a game started? Is it the fact that the sport is relatively safe? I think it is a combination of all of these. Soccer is played in every country in the world. In the street alleys of mexico kids gather barefoot and play with a ball that is thirty years old. Playing soccer to these kids is like bike riding or rollerblading to American kids. These kids don't need expensive equipment, team managers, or any organized play. Yet these players develop into some of the greatest players to ever lay foot on a soccer ball. In order for soccer to finally take its place as a mainstream American spectator sport, we must change the way the game is perceived. First, we must continue to create American soccer heroes like Michelle Akers or Cobi Jones. Second, we must change soccers foreign stereotype. Soccer in the U.S. is as old as baseball and is no more foreign than golf. Moreover, many of America's greatest players during those early years were not born in this country. But to change the "ethnic" tag, we must recognize that all of those so-called "immigrants" are also our fathers and our grandfathers. As Sam Foulds, the late historian for the USSF, liked to say, they are "Americans of foreign birth." Just like each one of them, soccer has always been an American game of foreign birth.

Our Anniversary vacation started on Sunday with a surprise to my husband of a trip to Orlando, Florida, where we stayed for 4 nights at walt Disneys Beach Club Resort. We reluctantly packed our bags on Wednesday night for pickup and transport to the cruise ship on Thursday morning. Since we had rented a car, we drove back to the airport to return it, and took the motorcoach from there for the 45 minute ride to Port Canaveral, arriving just before noon. A special video plays during the trip with highlights about the ship and all the activities you can expect once onboard.

Our trip included a stay at walt Disney Resort, so we were already checked-in for the cruise, and our WDW resort room key was also our boarding pass and stateroom key on the ship, eliminating the need to check in at the port; we were among the first to arrive onboard. Your stateroom key also allows you to make purchases onboard without having to carry any cash.

We each had a day bag with the essentials we would need upon boarding, and after stopping for a pre-boarding photo at the gangplank, we made our way on to the disney Wonder. The staterooms would not be ready to occupy for several more hours, but we were directed to one of the restaurants where a sumptuous buffet awaited us. Mountains of Shrimp, carved beef, every kind of salad imaginable, decadent deserts, and festive tropical drinks were just a few of the offerings. We then toured the pool deck, and found some comfy lounge chairs to soak up some more sun, and even played a little ping-pong.

When the staterooms were ready, we found our luggage had already been delivered and settled in. A list of the daily activities is available in each room, and one of the television stations has information about on-board entertainment. We had pre-booked a special dinner at Palos, an adults only dining experience, as part of a specially purchased package though normally you would have to make those reservations as soon as you board. We also had a spa treatment booked for the following day, and again, you would normally book that upon arrival. A life raft drill is held, then its on to the Sail Away party, and finally departure from the port in the late afternoon.

disney Characters are on hand, and there are ample photo opportunities for your family. Ships photographers are available at every occasion, and photos can be viewed that evening and purchased if desired. Photo packages are available and allow you to select the best of the shots from your trip.

The unique dining experience rotates between 3 dining rooms for each night, and your waitstaff travels with you each night. The first night we enjoyed Animators Palate, the next night was Palos, and the third night was at Tritons.

The first night sailing takes you to Nassau in the Bahamas, where you can spend the entire day as you choose, departing around 7:00 p.m. -- be sure to allow plenty of time to re-board! There are so many on-shore excursions to choose from, the hard part is deciding which to choose. We selected the Thriller Power boat tour that reaches up to 60 mph and tours Nassau Harbor, Paradise Island, and highlights nearby private islands. This thrilling morning tour is a great way to start the day, and leaves plenty of time to explore Nassau in the afternoon on your own. We walked around the shops in Nassau then headed to Paradise Island and Atlantis Resort, where we toured the grounds, scoped out the casino, bought a few trinkets, then took a cab back to the ship.

This was also our spa day, and we enjoyed a facial (for me) and both had a relaxing massage, then on to the steam room. Although the on-board gym was well equipped, we never had the time to enjoy those facilities.

There are plenty of activities on-board to keep you entertained even while in port. This was our 6th day of perfect weather -high 70's, sunny, and clear skies. Every minute was filled with plenty of activity, and we also had plenty of relaxation time. Even though there were nearly 1,000 children on board, we never felt over-run by kids, and thoroughly enjoyed the cruise. Kids have their own private deck on board, and activities designed to keep them entertained throughout the cruise.

There were nightclubs, bingo games, movies, character appearances, deck parties, live shows, and more than you could possibly fit into each day. Whatever your desires, be it a romantic honeymoon cruise, romantic anniversary trip like ours, or a family getaway, youll find it all onboard the disney Wonder.

This second night onboard was our night at Palos, and we enjoyed the quiet adults only dining capped off with a special chocolate souffl. The service is particularly attentive here, and the meals are superb. We had purchased a wine package upon boarding, and the wine selection was especially paired with the meals we ordered. Theyll even re-cork a bottle for you, if you dont finish one during the meal.

We set sail that evening for Disneys private island, Castaway Cay, where unfortunately the weather Saturday morning turned windy and rainy, and most of the day was spent on-board the ship. Ever attentive to the needs of the guests, the crew kept everyone on-board fed, active, and happy throughout the day. When the weather cleared some in the afternoon, we headed on-shore and enjoyed a leisurely walk around the island and along the sandy shores. Barbecue lunch was available, but we opted for room service in our stateroom onboard instead. This was to be our final night on-board and we were rotated into the more formal Tritons for dinner, and a special formal portrait was available beforehand. The meals are lavish, and youll never leave the table hungry! Each night you can select your appetizer, entre, and desert from the menu provided, so you always get exactly what youre hungry for.

The disney Wonder is meticulously maintained to Disneys normal high standards, and the service on-board met or exceeded every expectation you could have. The ship is a delight, beautifully appointment, with gorgeous teak decking, those special disney touches, and again because it was early December decorated for Christmas.

We reluctantly packed our bags for the final time, in preparation to depart the ship early the next morning. Sunday dawned sunny and warm as we head to our assigned breakfast seating, where you eat in the same restaurant as the final night, then immediately disembark at Port Canaveral. A 45 minute motorcoach trip back to Orlando International Airport completes your journey, with disney cartoons playing to pass the time.

Although there was a delay in delivering the number of Xbox 360s that consumers demanded for the 2005 holiday season, microsoft is expected to manufacture over 2 million of the gaming consoles in the first quarter of 2006. It's estimated that about 1 million xbox 360s made it to stores in time for the holidays, so there's a pent-up demand for the console. In addition, reported bugs and cooling problems will likely be worked out in the near future.

The Xbox isn't the only consumer electronic hitting the news these days. At the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show, a number of manufacturers of cell phones will be honored with innovation awards. For example, Firefly mobile will be honored for their "mobile Phone for mobile Kids," which is specifically designed for tweens. In addition, Auvi Technologies will be presented an award for their innovative PHIP100 VoIP-enabled cordless speakerphone with a built-in webcam.

How To Correct My Golf Slice - Simple Fixes For Every Golfer

The golf slice is one of the average golfer's most common game play mistakes. In golf, there is probably nothing more frustrating as practicing your perfect golf swing and finding out that your ball is sliced more times than you hit straight. If you are one of these golfers who suffer from the annoying golf slice, we reckon you probably want it to be corrected as soon as you can. You may probably be asking 'How do I correct my golf slice'?

To help you how to correct your golf slice, it is important to know that are the possible causes of it. In set up, there are a number of possible causes. This include bad grip or when the club is held so tight that tension is formed at the arms of the player, causing him to perform an outside to in swing. To correct a bad grip, try to loosen up your grip. Imagine you are grasping a little bird instead of a club make your grip tight enough to keep the bird from escaping, but loose enough not to constrict it to death. However, having a week grip will cause you to have a clubface that is open. Solve this by turning both of your hands clockwise at the club.

Bad alignment is another cause of slice. The best thing to do is to align the shoulders and feet in such a way that they will be parallel to the imaginary line from the ball to the target. A faulty ball position is also a cause of golf slice. This can be remedied by not placing the ball quite far as this can make the shoulder to open and create a swing path that is outside-to-in. You can also move back the golf ball into your stance though still a little but forward from center. This is to make sure that the club is parallel to the line from the ball to the target. The clubface angle is another factor you should look into. Make sure that the clubface is lined up squarely with the line from the ball to the target.

Problems with the swing also cause golf slice. These problems include poor transfer of weight. You should transfer your weight to the front from the back foot. A good way to eliminate slice is by using the renowned 'down the fairway' drill by Gary Player: hit your drive and take a forward step on follow through. Another drill you can use is the so-called stepping drill which is basically exaggerating your weight transfer by raising your front leg when on the subsequent backswing and transferring your weight to your back foot.

In order to move forward you need to look back. Back on the things that keep reoccurring that stop you from breaking through those overeating barriers which are: Fanatical Dieting, Emotional Eating and Conditioning (see my article 3 reason why we fail at dieting.

For those who live in the 3 reasons why we fail at dieting mode, I am going to share with you for FREE a very simple technique to overcome it. It doesnt matter whether you believe in it or not. All you have to do is do it and you will start to have changes instantaneously.

Fanatical dieters

Scientific research shows 90% of people who attempt to lose weight FAIL and how do the 90% of people who fail feellike failures, but they keep dieting anyway thinking the next diet will be the one that works. Some success, then no success and although some weight may have been lost it all gets piled back on againmaking you feel once again like a failure.

Let me make one thing quite clear. You are not stupid, dumb or lazy. Losing weight has nothing to do with will power or lack of it. So get that information out of your head.

Emotional Eating

Emotional eating is the second most proven reason for overeating, causing obesity in the world. Eating because of boredom, loneliness, being miserable, tired and a million and one other reasons none of which has anything to do with physical hunger.

Emotional eating is a nagging, get rid of the nagging and no more emotional eating.

Conditioning

Basically over a period of time of overeating you have conditioned your mind and body to be that way. No amount of dieting, will power, pills and shakes can change that.

The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to change the way you think about food and your relationship with it. Its about reprogramming our mind and body again.

Emotional Freedom Technique! Im not going to go into the how tos ,where fors or history of Emotional Freedom Technique. You can go to my website for that. Basically the precept of this technique is the cause of all negative emotion is a block in the bodys energy system. Get rid of the block and you nullify the emotion.

Once again to utilize this technique you only need DO IT! You dont have to believe in it that really doesnt matter but to get the full benefits of it you do need to DO IT!

Emotional Freedom Technique works by tapping on parts of the bodys energy meridian and speaking some affirmations. No pills, No shakes, No exercise equipment, No drugs, No side effects, No money passing handsjust the technique.

Tapping

You will be using your pointer and middle fingers from either hand to do the tapping. At each meridian you will tap 7 times, give or take this method is very forgiving.

The Setup

The most important part of the technique is the setup. To do this we say an affirmation whilst tapping or rubbing a particular spot. For the purpose of this exercise I am going to show you the karate chop set up. If you have a look at your hand, palm facing you, look at the side of the hand from the top of the pinky finger down to the wrist. Just above the wrist is a flesh part where one would normally do a karate chophave you found it. If so this is the area you will tap using you pointer and middle fingers.

Okso now that we have all of that out of the way I want you to tap you karate spot for practice.

Basic recipe - The Meridians

The meridians are as follow, try and find it on your body as I mention it. Practice a little so you become familiar with them.

1.Eye Brow this is the beginning of the eyebrow above the nose

2.Side of Eye this can be found the bone at the end of the eyebrow

3.Under Eye on the cheekbone under the eye

4.Under Nose- under the nose above the top lip

5.Chin the crevasse between the lower lip and the chin

6.Collar bone just under the collar bone

7.Armpit halfway down under the armpit

8.Thumb under the nail of the thumb

9.Pointer finger bottom side of the nail facing the thumb

10.Middle finger - bottom side of the nail facing the thumb

11.Little finger - bottom side of the nail facing the thumb

Repeat 1 to 7

The Affirmation Statements

Whilst tapping your karate spot you say an affirmation that is specific to you. Where there are blanks you fill in the reason. For the purpose of this exercise we are going to work on a particular food craving of yours. What I want you to do is go buy yourself what ever it is you craving, keeping in mind you may not want to eat it when you finish this exercise.

before you start this exercise I want you to rate your desire to want what ever it is you have a craving for. I want you to smell it and savor the smell. I want you to have a small bite. now on a scale from 0 10, 0 being no craving, 10 being crave it, write it down on a piece of paper for later reference.

The Statement

Whilst tapping your karate spot say the following affirmation as loud as you possibly can, if you cant say it out loud, say it loud in your mind. Repeat the affirmation and tapping 3 times.

Even though I have a craving for I deeply and completely accept myself Repeat 2 more times

now follow the Basic recipe, whilst tapping at each meridian say craving for .

Even though I still have a craving for I deeply and completely accept myself

When you finish rate yourself from 0 10 again and write it down. You should notice a shift in your desire to eat what ever it is you desire, even to the point it no longer taste the same to you. If you havent reached a 0, repeat this exercise again.

This Writers' Life: The Cheat Sheet

Im often asked where I get my ideas from or how I go about writing my poetry/lyrics. Truth be told, Im not exactly sure... a thought or feeling will just appear in my head and I will have this dire urge to get pen and paper to get it out. I honestly cant explain it; when the muse strikes, the words just flow out of me and Im left with a poem or lyric.

I do have to come clean about one thing... I dont just sit around waiting for the muse to strike. If I did, I would hardly ever write or get halfway through a piece and the muse decides to leave me to my own vices. I have what I call Cheat Sheets that I can go to should I be separated from my muse.

What is a Cheat Sheet?

A Cheat Sheet is simply a notebook that I keep with me at all times. Inspiration can come at any time, it doesnt care if you are able to work on the idea that instant or not. Quite often inspiration will strike at inopportune moments. It is times like these that my Cheat Sheet comes in handy, I may not be able to work on the poem or lyric right away, but I can jot it down to work on at a later point in time.

The Cheat Sheet often comes in handy if I come across a thought I may be able to work on but unsure of how I will use it. Another great use for the Cheat Sheet is to jot down lines or phrases that catch my attention. I may be working on another piece and the perfect line comes to me... only to see that it has nothing to do with my current project. I can easily store it on my Cheat Sheet to come back to it later.

How often do you spend hours working on a poem only to find yourself stuck on a line or verse? By taking a break and having a look at your Cheat Sheet you may find a solution to the problem or be inspired to start a new writing project while you distance yourself from the problematic piece. The uses of a Cheat Sheet can be endless you are limited only by your imagination.

The Cheat Sheet and Writers Block

Every writer, at some point, will suffer from the dreaded writers block, if like me, you can go months without a single word written. I find that the Cheat Sheet can help in curing writers block; at least to a certain extent. How on earth can a Cheat Sheet cure writers block you ask?

Its simple really, even though you may not have any current inspiration for a writing project, your Cheat Sheet can have hundreds of different ideas, lines, phrases, etc that you were inspired to write down in the past. Its possible that there are dozens of poems, lyric or story ideas within the pages of your Cheat Sheet.

Start simply by looking through your Cheat Sheet, and jot down any of the lines, phrases, etc that may come to you. Failing that, try and group some of these lines into similar themes. Once you have a collection of these thoughts on your new page, take a long look at what you have in front of you. Can you write something using these words? Are there other thoughts that come to mind while looking at them? Continue jotting down any ideas and thoughts that may come to mind and try to start structuring them into a writing piece [be it prose, poetry, lyric, etc].

You will soon discover that you are writing once again, and that the dreaded writers block has dissipated. The writing may or may not be good, I cannot make any promises in that regard, however, you will no longer have a blank page in front of you and will have something to show for your efforts. If it isnt any good then you will have something to continue working on until it is up to scratch.

Having a Cheat Sheet can help eliminate those wasted hours staring at a blank piece of paper (or the blinking cursor on your monitor). With a little forethought and planning, you can have a system set up to help you through many of the problems a writer can face.

No matter where you look today, you will find or see something to do with fat loss or diets. The mass majority of them will either say all or high protein and no carbohydrates or just the opposite. I have tried to diet with both of these concepts.

The protein diet for fat loss. I must say it was the fastest way for me to drop 30 pounds. I did it in 30 days. I eat nothing but meats, fish, nuts and very little amounts of vegetables and fruits. I held my carbs to less than 25 grams a day. I also held my calorie intake to 1200 a day or less. And most days it was under that. This will put your body in to a state of ketosis. This forces your body to burn your fat. It has no carbohydrates to use for fuel. For me the side effect of this diet was constipation. Not a very pleasant thing at all.

After dropping all of my weight I began to eat as I did before going on the protein only diet. Needless to say I gained all of my weight back and then some.

Next I thought I would give the no fat Fat loss diet a try. So basically I ate everything that had no fat to it. now here is were it can get very interesting. If you eat allot of grains or grain products, like breads, sugar rich foods you will lose nothing and probably gain allot of weight. I could not loss any weight at all till I started to eat only fruits and vegetables. Here again I had to eat only a small amount to lose any weight at all. I will say to I did not lose the weight I lost on the protein diet. I tired of it very quickly and gave up on it. I will also say with both diets I was on I did not exercise at all.

Still looking for that magic bullet I ran across a diet that will let you eat both carbs and protein. The best of both worlds so to speak. now there are curtain foods that you should stay away from, like refined grain products, breads crackers and that kind of foods. anything with sugar it it also. now you can eat meats, fish and proteins. Also carbohydrates like most vegetables and fruits. All of the allowed fruits and vegetables are high in fiber to help keep you feeling full longer. I am just now giving this diet a try. In about a week I did lose 4 pounds. It is not as fast as the protein diet but I think it is allot healthier.

I think one of the most important things you must do in order for any diet to work is that you have to be in the right mind set. Also no matter what you are eating you can not over eat anything. Face it! dieting is nothing but a numbers game. You must take in less calories than you are burning to lose any weight.

Through the years non-yogis adopted it, intuitively sensing and connecting the practice with greater peace of mind. Personally, I cant say enough good things about meditation. Its use has rewarded me with less worry and much more energy. But Ive never been one for anecdotal evidence. Lets get to the science

Transcendental meditation

Recently, theres an incredible amount of science tied into the benefits of meditation. The studies are endless and cover a variety of meditative practices. On Transcendental meditation alone (mantra repetition) there are over 500 studies. Some are more noteworthy that others. A study in the Japanese Journal of Public Health found that through Transcendental meditation, industrial workers sleep improved and their smoking decreased. Another study conducted at the MERU Research institute, in Buckinghamshire, England found that the length of time practicing the Transcendental meditation and TM-Sidhi program correlated with younger biological age and younger functional age.

mindfulness meditation, which asks us to focus on our breath to facilitate awareness of the present moment, is another widely studied meditation technique. After studying the effects of 8-weeks of mindfulness meditation on participants, a 2003 report in the Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine concluded: A short program in mindfulness meditation produces demonstrable effects on brain and immune function. Impressive, but fairly vague. To get a more committed response to the benefits of meditation we have to turn to Taiwan. The five most common and noticeable changes of this condition include; red face and puffy cheeks; excess fat surrounding the collar bones, muscle weakness, and hypertension. But we dont have to have Cushings Syndrome to be damaged by extra cortisol. The changes we experience may be subtle variations of these. Plus, the changes caused by excess cortisol are age dependent. Young people may stop growing and teenagers can develop acne. The mature among us arent safe either. Since excess cortisol damages bone-tissue those over age 60 may develop fractures related to osteoporosis. So its evident that if we can regulate cortisol, especially through a natural process, we owe it to ourselves to try.

Regina Drueding, MD, is a meditation instructor at Life Circles in Utah, USA. She quotes the benefits of meditation as follows: more energy, improved quality of sleep, decreased anxiety, lessened chronological aging, improved concentration, improved visual acuity, increased alertness and heightened immunity. She writes: Besides the benefits mentioned earlier, meditation results in improvement of hypertension, sleep disorders, headaches, heartrhythm disturbances, chronic pain pain due to cancer, infertility and irritable bowel syndrome. How to Meditate

Meditation is both simple and complex. Its like defining the color orange: When you see it you know it. Similarly, the experience of meditation is best, wellexperienced. In an article in New View magazine, Shippensburg Universitys Dr. C. George Boeree describes the basics of Buddhist meditation. In summary, the beginners technique is as follows:

1. Sit or kneel comfortably.

2. The hands are loose and open with the palms up, one atop the other and thumbs lightly touching.

3. Head is upright. Eyes may be closed or open. If open they should focus on your hands or a spot nearby.

4. Beginning meditators should count upwards to ten on each exhale. Breathe in a relaxed and natural way. Then begin again at one and repeat. Continue to breathe naturally.

5. Continue for 15 minutes.

In my personal experience, I dont find that the specific length of time is as important as repetition and persistence. To paraphrase, 10 minutes daily beats 15 minutes once a week. This brings me to another point: We all have different personalities and as such, different meditation approaches suit some more than others. Thankfully there are many varieties of meditation. Some varieties have sub-varieties.

mindfulness meditation is one of these versatile practices. Perhaps its because its essence-awareness of the present moment-is so versatile. mindfulness in our daily life can be practiced by slowing down and attending to our surroundings. What are our 5 senses telling us? We can use mindfulness in the middle of a hectic day, such as paying attention to our breathing when stopped at a traffic light. We can also use other everyday events as triggers for mindfulness. Buckling your seatbelt? Make this a reminder to return to the present. Really think about what youre doing and the details of the experience.

The more traditional may benefit from a more formal mindfulness practice. You may sit in the identical form as in traditional Buddhist meditation- on a chair or kneeling. However, you may also sit with your legs crossed. Your eyes are closed and your posture is both straight and relaxed while your head remains upright. Focus on your breath and allow mental chatter to float by without regard. Thoughts, emotions and sensations will come, but dont be influenced by them. Keep focused on your breath. If you are getting involved with your thoughts dont worry-your efforts arent destroyed. The key thing is to bring your attention back to breathing and continue. This can go on for 5 minutes to 5 hours. Its up to you.

Transcendental Meditation is another popular form of meditation. Generally, this type is practiced twice daily for a period of 15-20 minutes. Again, this technique involves sitting comfortably. Yet in contrast to basic Buddhist the eyes stay closed. Each student is given a mantra and is instructed to induce relaxation through use of this mantra. Since many of either cant or wont go to a formal TM class, a no-fail mantra I recommend is the classic OM. In The Heart of Yoga, T.K.V Desikachar writes that repetition of "OM" enables us to maintain mental and emotional calmness, overcome obstacles and enable understanding. It is the shortest of the mantras, and is said to be suggestive of God. If youre uncomfortable with the religious aspects of OM I suggest a word that has positive meaning for you, such as love, calm or peace. Calm is an ideal substitute, since vocally it resembles OM.

Final Word

You may never, ever choose to meditate. Yet if this is your choice it may be valuable to question why. For a long time I was reluctant because of images of the dropout hippie 60s. Yet when I tried it the experience overcame my reservations. If you try it the same may happen to you. If it doesnt you havent lost any money, and youve gained a new experience.

One aspect of television technology that's frequently overlooked is gaming. Some may look down on video games as being activities for adolescents, but a lot of former adolescents who were completely into video games have grown up and brought those games with them.

A quick look at some video game systems shows that the games have grown up too. Microsoft's xbox is a perfect example of this phenomenon. If the last video game system you played was an Atari or and Intellivision, you won't even recognize the new xbox 360. This system is meant to deliver the best possible video game experience given today's technology and it uses that technology in full. It's central processing unit is made up of three separate processors each with a clock speed of 3.2 Gigahertz. It also has an ATI graphics processor that runs at 500 Megahertz that can process four times as many pixels a second than the original xbox. (There isn't even a comparison between this and the Intellivision!) The xbox 360 has 512 Megabytes of RAM which is shared among all of the processors.

The xbox 360 is also designed to work with High Definition. As part of the standard for the xbox 360 all video games have to support either 720p or 1080i resolutions and the wide screen 16:9 aspect ratio. Supposedly a High Definition Television set isn't completely necessary to play the xbox 360. If that's true, one has to wonder what happens to the extra screen width when the xbox is used with a 4:3 aspect ratio television. It's easy to imagine losing the right and left edges of the screen getting in the way of playing some games. Like with First person shooters, you might find yourself shot by someone just out of your view but who you would have seen with a 16:9 screen.

The xbox 360 also come with a 20 gigabyte hard drive. The hard drive is removable and can hold music to be played as a soundtrack to be played along with games. (In the old days we were forced to turn on the CD player if we wanted a sound track.) Presumably the hard drive could also hold digital photos and other data. In fact, though the literature is quick to emphasize that the xbox 360 is primarily meant to be used as a gaming platform, it can be used for a lot of other types of media too. For example it will function as an MP3, CD, and dvd player and display digital photographs off of DVD's and CD's. The fact that the unit includes three usb ports means that a huge number of devices including digital cameras, MP3 players, and computers with microsoft Windows XP can be used with the xbox 360. Other extras include wireless controllers with rechargeable batteries that can charge on the unit itself, and the ability to establish a wireless connection with your computer.

With all of this connectivity it seems that they only thing, the xbox 360 won't do is replace the work station abilities of a normal computer.
